Upanayana Sanskar (उपनयन संस्कार)

उप यानी पास और नयन यानी ले जाना। 
गुरु के पास ले जाने का अर्थ है उपनयन संस्कार। 
उपनयन संस्कार बच्चे के 6 - 8 वर्ष की आयु में किया जाता है, इसमें यज्ञ करके बच्चे को एक पवित्र धागा पहनाया जाता है, इसे यज्ञोपवीत या जनेऊ भी कहते हैं l बालक को जनेऊ पहनाकर गुरु के पास शिक्षा अध्ययन के लिए ले जाया जाता था। आज भी यह परंपरा है। 
जनेऊ में तीन सूत्र होते हैं। ये तीन देवता- ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, महेश के प्रतीक हैं। 
फिर हर सूत्र के तीन-तीन सूत्र होते हैं। ये सब भी देवताओं के प्रतीक हैं। आशय यह कि शिक्षा प्रारंभ करने के पहले देवताओं को मनाया जाए। जब देवता साथ होंगे तो अच्छी शिक्षा आएगी ही।
 
अब बच्चा द्विज कहलाता है, द्विज का अर्थ होता है जिसका दूसरा जन्म हुआ हो, अब बच्चे को पढाई करने के लिए गुरुकुल भेजा जाता है l
पहला जन्म तो हमारे माता पिता ने दिया लेकिन दूसरा जन्म हमारे आचार्य, ऋषि, गुरुजन देते हैं, उनके ज्ञान को पाकर हम एक नए मनुष्य बनते हैं इसलिए इसे द्विज या दूसरा जन्म लेना कहते हैं l
यज्ञोपवीत  पहनना गुरुकुल  जाने, ज्ञानी होने, संस्कारी होने का प्रतीक है l
 
कुछ लोगों को ग़लतफहमी है की यज्ञोपवीत का धागा केवल ब्राह्मण लोग ही धारण अक्र्ते हैं, वास्तब में आज कल केवल ब्राह्मण ही रह गए हैं जो सनातन परम्पराओं को पूर्णतया निभा रहे हैं, जबकि पुराने समय में सभी लोग गुरुकुल में प्रवेश के समय ये यज्ञोपवीत पवित्र धागा पहनते थे..... यानी की जनेऊ धारण करते थे l

The first birth was given by our parents, but the second birth is given by our teacher, sage, the master, by getting their knowledge, we become a new human being, so it is called taking birth to twins or second.
Wearing Yajnogvati is a symbol of being Gurukul, Being a wise, cultured.

Some people have misunderstood that only the Brahmins are the thread of Yajnopavati. They are only now Brahmins who are playing Sanatan traditions completely, whereas in the old time, when all people enter Gurukul, they are sacred Used to wear thread ... i.e. used to wear Janeu.
